The mood - an exhibition
Date: 31st August 2019 – 15th September 2019
Venue: Junction Art Gallery, 14 Reid Avenue, Colombo 07 (Within the Lakpahana Precinct)
Having lived in both Colombo and Sydney, the two drastically different communities inspirited me to keep painting. I use acrylics and mixed media techniques for my paintings. My fascination with the human mind led me to explore the way a child’s mind perceives things. Their raw imagination leads to mesmerizing, mismatched yet holistic drawings that makes sense only to them and also leaves them invariably happy. The irregular shapes and funny outfits painted by the little ones created unique designs that inspired me infinitely. Thus, I sometimes imagine textures and imprint them on figures to show how vibrant things can be only if you give space to imagine things that way. I’ve also drawn inspiration from Picasso’s faces that refined some of my painting while Basquiat’s style helped me imagine crazy again. In terms of my color palette, David Hockney and Barbara Sansoni have influenced it.
